Victorian Weekend at Llandudno

We have just had a lovely bank holiday weekend away in North Wales and on Sunday we visited Llandudno for the day because they hold a Victorian Weekend each first May bank holiday break.

We arrived just in time to see the start of the parade through the streets with vintage steam engines, cars, marching bands and people dressed in Victorian costume. It had been raining very hard most of the morning but the sun had come out  about an hour beforehand, so there seemed to be smiles all round.

We had such a lovely day wandering around the streets watching people enjoying the fairground rides, Punch & Judy show and bands playing on the band stand on the promenade. Of course I found time to visit a couple of charity shops and bought 6 books from one shop. They were 3 for £1 and I found 5 books by one of my favourite authors M.C. Beaton. My sister, Karen, wanted one book so this made up the required 6 for £2.

The whole town was bustling and it was crowded in some places but everyone seemed in good spirits with rounds of applause when the parade passed. I have a fondness for steam engines and love the smell of the burning coal mixed with oil which really evoke fond childhood memories of visiting steam traction rallies with my parents.

We returned to our cosy caravan with aching feet and the need to spend a moment or two on the beach just behind our caravan. There is something in being by the sea that just lifts my spirits and makes my heart soar.

We returned to the caravan lounge for a picnic evening meal washed down with chilled cava and rose wine. I adore a picnic meal and we had cold cooked meats - Parma ham, thinly sliced chorizo and salami; different cheeses, crackers and panini. There was some also pickles, cheese scones and savoury nibbles. Heaven.

How did you spend your weekend?
