Week 1 of 2017

After reviewing my eBay sales for last year I decided that I needed to carry on with my sales for this year and so re-listed the items that I had closed down before Christmas. It started well with three sales almost straight away. Some of the items I sold had been listed for some time so I was grateful to get rid of them. I have hundreds of items to list this year. Mainly clothes but some other items such as shoes, make up and toiletries that I don't want. I find it very liberating to be free of some of my clutter.

I received a freebie perfume sample in the post from Estée Lauder - Modern Muse Nuit version. These are great for popping into my weekend toiletry bag so I don't have to carry a full sized bottle of perfume with me. I loved the way it was wrapped up like a sweetie. I got this free via the Magic Freebies website.

I've started on my clearout of my freezers and am just buying fresh ingredients to go with what I am using up from my freezers. So Saturday morning I was up with the lark and bought some soffritto mix to use in a bolognese sauce, I had found a pack of M&S pork mince that I had bought at just 45p which I used in the sauce instead of beef or lamb. This will be served with some fresh ravioli style pasta which was also reduced to 30p.

I also bought some chestnut mushrooms to use in a venison casserole that I made using two packs of diced venison that I had also bought from M&S at the bargain price of £1.10 a pack. I used two onions that were in the back of the pantry, some strips of smoked bacon, and a good glug (or two!!) of red wine from a bottle Chianti that had been in the wine rack for at least two years. It smelt alright when I opened it so reckoned it would be okay to use.

I also bought some fresh petit pois to use with some delicious looking Dover sole which I found in the freezer. This was also reduced but not to the level as the mince & venison.

I felt a little overwhelmed with how much every room needs a good clear out. I reckoned that if I just tackled one small area at a time that it will eventually get sorted in the long run. I can't expect instant results with everything which is my usual unrealistic expectation. So I cleared out the top section of my built in cupboard. I found quite a few things to sell on eBay. Everything from unused nail varnishes to a lovely silver charm from Links of London to two Penhaligon keyrings that were gifts and never been used in the 6 years or so that I have had them.

The charm is a beautiful silver bell which I thought was charming (did you see what I did there?) but it rings so when I wore it I sounded like our cat running around the house. The ringing of the bell drove me round the bend so it came off the bracelet and ended back in the box. Time for it to be sold on and drive someone else crazy. Luckily I kept the receipt from Selfridges so buyers can see that it is authentic so I'll photograph the receipt when I list it.

I started to watch some of the DVDs that I had bought over the summer at carboot sales but not had time to watch as yet. I had stored them all in a plastic box under the kitchen table and just went for random selection when choosing what to watch. This week I watched Carol starring Care Blanchet. She has been one of my favourite actors since seeing her star in the film The Gift. The film Carol was beautifully produced and set in the 1950s. It reminded me of an episode of Madmen. I enjoyed watching it but I will not be keeping the DVD to re-watch which is my way of rating how much I enjoy a film. Having said that I just have too many DVDs and need to get rid of some.

I also watched Dream House starring Daniel Craig. This really was a sit on the edge of your seat thriller. I thought it was going to be fairly pedestrian but it was gripping with some twists and turns. This will also be going. I enjoyed it but I am trying to clear out DVDs so this will probably be going to my sister along with Carol.
